Pheasant Hunting in South Dakota: The Perfect Group Experience
Pheasant Hunt
Are you planning a group hunt for your friends, family, or corporate team? Then you couldn’t choose better game than pheasant, a better place for it than South Dakota, or a better outfitter than Rockin’ Ringnecks
Pheasant hunting is just as fun as it is challenging. It only becomes more rewarding when you’re surrounded by abundant roosters, which give everyone in the party plenty of shot opportunities.
Our land is centered between Chamberlain, Winner and Gregory, SD: smack dab in the middle of the “Golden Triangle” of pheasant hunting. It is the habitat where pheasants thrive best, filled with corn, sorghum, cattails, switchgrass, wildflowers, and other plants which support a very high population of wild birds, as well as shelterbelts that give pheasants plenty of cover throughout the winter.
Many outfitters provide excellent pheasant hunts in South Dakota, though very few can provide a true luxury experience like Rockin’ Ringnecks. Our 4,000 sq ft hunting lodge and neighboring 700 sq ft cabin offer spacious and comfortable accommodations for hunting parties of all sizes, and are filled with amenities to enjoy outside of hunting hours. Our lodging is also located just 100 yards away from The Mount Rushmore State’s two best drinking and dining establishments: Cody’s Bar and Frank Day’s, both of which welcome visiting pheasant hunters with arms wide open.
Safety is Our Priority
Your safety is just as important to our team as your hunting pleasure. Trust our experienced guides to help you hunt responsibly, but please always keep these important tips in mind.
- Obey the four rules of firearm safety:
(1) assume all guns are always loaded;
(2) never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy;
(3) keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on the target;
(4) be sure of your target and what’s behind it. - No shooting at the ground under any circumstances. Our dogs are priceless to us, and we cannot risk any of them getting shot. Also take care not to shoot at very low birds. You never know when a dog is going to jump at a bird out of nowhere.
- Absolutely no alcohol before or during the hunt. Alcohol and shotguns do not mix under any circumstances. There will be plenty of time for cocktails after the hunt’s conclusion.
- Safety glasses or some type of eye protection must be worn at all times.
- Wear a billed hat at all times. Shot pellets eventually come back down to earth; a billed hat offers additional eye protection.
- Blaze orange clothing must be worn at all times. You cannot wear too much blaze orange clothing. At minimum, a blaze orange hat is required.
- If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to talk to your guides.
Above all, use common sense. If everyone has a safe hunt, everyone gets to hunt again the next day!
